Unity Ride 2010 Unity Ride (we will support a Unity event in Tifton, GA) We initially planned a Unity Ride for Sept. 18, 2010 (our 3rd annual event). The 3rd Sat. in Sept. has always conflicted with Trail of Tears, plus the 2nd annual GA Baptist Children's Home ride is Sept. 11, plus Crossroads and other area biker ministries want to support the Colors For the Cross Bikefest Sept. 3-5, which moved to GA (Tifton) this year. There was a Unity Ride Planning Team suggestion to support CFC in lieu of sponsoring a 3rd unity Ride in our area, which was adopted by the planning team. The 8th Annual CFC Bikefest is a Unity event, with 5 biker ministries on the planning team, and 18 or more biker ministries supporting the event. All our local area ministries at the July 18 meeting supported the idea of supporting CFC. We'll likely do likewise in Sept. 2011 if CFC remains in GA. We all want to support unity among biker ministries in our area, and will look for ways to promote unity, such as more inclusive Angel Tree deliveries in Dec. Email unity@crossroadsbikers.org if you need more information about the decision or the Colors For the Cross BikeFest. See our event calendar for flyer and event information about CFC.
2009 Unity Ride Pictures (Atlanta) Sept. 19, 2009 We advertise the Unity Rides as "rain or shine" events, and the 2009 ride in Atlanta was the rainiest Unity Ride in the 4-year history of the event. At Great South H-D, it started raining about 8:30 am and didn't quit until 6 pm or so. Light rain at first, we had the band, amplifiers/speakers, our registration volunteers/bikers registering, and audience protected with tents, and it looked like the ride might happen. The rain got heavier about 10 am, and the ride was scrapped. When thunderstorms rolled in about 1:30 pm, the event was ended. The music, messages, and food were still awesome! Thanks to all that braved the weather to support Unity. Here's some pictures.
We came to Great South on Fri. 9/18- to set up bandstand and the large tents. There was 80% chance of rain on Fri., but no rain till after we left. Maybe we should have done the Unity Ride on Friday!
Wheels of Grace magazine supports unity among churches and motorcycle ministries, and shows that support by sponsoring "Unity Rides" throughout the U.S. for area biker ministries to pray, fellowship, ride, and serve together. In 2006, the first Unity Ride was held in Dallas-Ft.Worth. In 2007, their efforts expanded to four cities (Dallas, Phoenix, Sacramento, and Lakeland), to benefit Angel Tree. In 2008, the unity ride was at 12 locations, including right here in Newnan, led by Crossroads Bikers and 9 other biker ministries. In
2009, Wheels of Grace asked if
we'd host it again. Angel Tree was all for it, and the local motorcycle ministries that supported our ride
in 2008 are all for it - so,
we agreed to do it again. The format and setup was so well-received in
2008, that we're basically planning the same event. The date will be Sat. Sept. 19, 2009, again starting
(and ending) at Great South H-D in Newnan (I-85 exit 41). Registration
9 am-11 am (at Great South H-D). Lunch is provided (by Cargill Meats and
Shane's Rib Shack), goody bags with
coupons, magazines, CFA chicken biscuits to 1st 150 people registered. Music
by a band from Tallapoosa, GA -
Justifi'd (see Romans 3:24),
Come join us to worship, fellowship, pray, serve, and ride with other Biker Ministries and support two Christian ministries - Angel Tree and Wheels of Grace. Ride will be $15 for rider, and $10 for a passenger, plus (optional) toy. Here's a Registration form, and a Atlanta-only ride flyer. We'll provide goody bags (and a chicken biscuit) to 1st 150 people registered, WOG magazines, praise music & concert by Justifi'd, free lunch, a prayer call, great messages, and a nice, leisurely, 50-minute backroads ride (longer than last year). Here's the 2009 banner, Atlanta Ride flyer, Mail or Fax Registration form, and online link to secure online registration ($1.55 fee). Pre-register by Sept. 15.
